    About Us

Car & Away is a revolutionary new start-up which, at its heart, enables private car owners to rent their cars directly to others when they are not using them. Think Airbnb for cars.
Our brand purpose is to become the smartest peer-to-peer car sharing community globally.

We believe the world needs a smarter way to own and use cars. Car ownership costs are high, yet these cars are only used for 4% of their lifetime. There are 31m in the UK and 1bn worldwide highlighting a chronic inefficiency of private car ownership and a huge opportunity around unlocking the idle capacity in these cars.  We aim to reduce the number of cars on the road by 20%.

The Car & Away community was born at UK airports where we offer car owners a new choice to park and earn by renting their cars out whilst away. Using these cars we disrupt the traditional car rental companies by offering renters the exact car they choose, no queues, and no hidden extras, so they can drive away in under 5 minutes - guaranteed.

Stage two is where it gets really big – activating airport-acquired owners to rent their cars from home becoming the forefront of a larger community that will ultimately revolutionise car ownership across the country.

This is a rare opportunity to join an exciting business that will transform the way in which we own and use cars. Find out more about us on YouTube and Trustpilot (9.8/10).

    The Role

As our Product Owner & Project Manager, you’ll be working with our internal & external development teams building our new world-class, app-centric, car sharing platform.  Working closely with our Head of Product & UX and CTO, you’ll bridge the gap between the customer and the development team, both providing the informed feedback necessary for customer centric system development and managing the agile development process.  This is a great opportunity to bring your experience and passion to help develop a product capable of inspiring owners and renters to become our greatest advocates. We want people to rave about the experience as much as the concept.

    More specifically:

    • Understand the market & business requirements and customer needs.
    • Become the subject matter expert for your products, and the customers who will value your products most. Use data and insight to demonstrate your thinking and be the go-to person for stakeholders who want to know about the products.
    • Manage cycles of customer engagements to determine what works well and what needs to work better regarding the product and platforms
    • Work with stakeholders to elicit and define business requirements.
    • Work with stakeholders to prioritise requirements and maintain the product roadmap.
    • Maintain definition of the MVP and MLP, and track/communicate development progress against these.
    • Translate business / customer requirements into high quality detailed user stories and other form of solution specification.
    • Focus on business value of any solution.
    • Create and maintain an Increment and Sprint plan based on prioritised requirements and development progress.
    • Managing partners and suppliers to the business.
    • Participate in Sprint planning / estimation / poker card sessions.
    • Ensure that maximum development velocity is achieved through steady supply of  clear requirements to developers.
    • Support internal and external development teams to ensure requirement detail is clear during sprints.
    • Overseeing the delivery of releases from conception to production, ensuring that schedules and quality standards are upheld.
    • Communicate and demonstrate product progress back to the business.
    • Ensure all solutions contribute to a product that is fully logical, usable and coherent when taken as a whole.
    • Ensure the product is compliant, legal and meets other non-functional requirements.

    About You

    • Your natural instincts will drive you to want to experience first hand what we do, and to engage with customers who are using our service. You will want to find out what customers think of the product experience, importantly - what works well and what needs to work better.
    • Strong communication skills with an ability to build effective relationships quickly.
    • Comfortable to challenge perceived requirements and sell in compromise where necessary.
    • At least 3 years as a product owner or business analyst involved directly with solution development.
